Gale Catcher: Premium Speed Upgrade
Stronger tailwind boost than Wind Catcher—when to build it, where to place it, and how to route.
Gale Catcher outperforms Wind Catcher on tailwinds and shines on long, steady routes. It’s heavier, so plan your deck before upgrading.
Performance
Tailwind boost ~15% vs Wind Catcher’s ~10%. No penalty on headwind, just no boost.
Requirements & Materials
Requires 80 Crafting and Magic Logs. Build it after your helm/Extractor spacing is locked to avoid costly rebuilds.
Placement Tips
Do not block helm → Extractor line. On Sloop: starboard midline; Skiff: behind helm lane; Galleon: offset to leave a 2-tile path.
Frequently Asked Questions
When to upgrade from Wind Catcher?
When your main routes have long tailwind stretches and you can afford the weight; otherwise Wind Catcher is enough.
Will it hurt maneuverability?
Slightly, due to weight. Keep cargo light and avoid placing it in helm lanes to minimize impact.
Does it conflict with Extractor?
No, but always secure a ≤2-tile helm-to-Extractor path before installing Gale Catcher.
